      It's damage. Notice the curve of the D is now straight.

          I see that. The damage only affected the top half of the curve though. That's what threw me off.

              Looks like the whole thing ate it to me. There is also a brutal hit on the bottom serif.

                  Wow. Too bad about all the damage, plus your pic might be out of focus a little, but compare it to the CC 1MM-010. Looks like it could be it. (your coin has been through truck traffic, but it (CC) does show one marker on the reverse.) The mintmark position is good, but you will have to look closer at the split serifs, etc.
