    1955 d rpm?

Don't have overlays so I don't know if it fits or even if it is an RPM. If It's gouges, I'm thinking it's pretty unlikely. Any thoughts? (No I have not located anything like it on any of the sites.)

Since it only has the small part North - nothing else - I think your guess is correct a gouge.

Are those small "hooks" coming out the east side of the mintmark, or are they contact marks and the angle is just throwing me off?

Lower one looks like debris, upper looks like a contact to me... I think he is questioning the north... We'll have to wait!

Anyone else notice the other die chips forming? They'll chip and a crack will form, eventually a whole crack with chips along it, very common from '52 through 1960.

I agree with what has been said. And I would just simplify it to it not looking like an RPM. Too many questions to ask when looking at the area in question. You could hold on to it and see if another example surfaces and compare.

I have seen this die before. It is definitely chips and cracks. It turns into a rather large chip a bit later. Definitely not an RPM.
