    1997 Mint Error ?

    Hello Everyone,
I just sent this Lincoln to ANACS for grading, found it in my change and thought it was different so I wanted to see what they could tell me about it and I was hoping someone at LCR could give me there opinions and if is worth anything. Thanks.

Post strike damage. It was abused after it left the mint. Worth 1 cent, if that. Sorry.

Heavily damaged...if you had posted it here first, we would have been able to save you the fees to send it in. Oh well, it's an opportunity to learn.

          It's damaged and zinc rot.
Cents made from mid 1982 on are copper plated zinc, If damaged and exposed to the environment they rot like that.
If you do metal detecting you find a lot of cents like that.

Guys, let's all be aware that we too were newbies at one time, and needed to learn the key differences between PMD and genuine mint errors. What we may recognize as obvious may not be as obvious to some. That's what the forum is here for...to learn.

Sorry, Simon. I guess I kind of discounted the newbie theory when I saw Years Collecting:45 years...on his profile.

                  My mistake.

                  Welcome aboard.
