1999 Lincoln Cent (no copper plating?)

    Fellow collectors...

This is one of the 3 odd finds this week from my weekly brinks boxes....

Its a 1999 D Lincoln Cent that looks just like a steel war penny. I carefully checked it over and it is not painted...Is this a penny that was stamped from unplated stock?

See the pics attached, in one pic I put a standard lincoln next to it to account for the strange lighting on my magnifier, to see the diff in color......

First I would be real hesitant to evaluate your coin by the pictures provided. The coloring by your light interferes with the evaluation.

See the below link with some information and photos provided for you to evaluate your find. Remember that a true unplated has to have mint luster and a re-plated coin will be a blueish color.
I hope this helps in answering your questions.

        Lot better picture. (Thank You)

First how does the rim look all the way around ?
Second can you post a picture of the reverse?
Can you provide the weight of the coin?
Did you compare it to the link I provided?

Can you see any copper on the edges or in the crevices of design detail. I'm no good at this type error.

            Answers:
The rim is silver and smooth all the way around.
            I uploaded a reverse image..
The coin is exactly 2.5g or 0.09oz
I did compare to your link, mine does not have the truly shiny luster such as while rotating it in the light and seeing a pinwheel effect, though it is reflective, but it is also slightly beat up so its hard to tell for sure.

The crevices and edges are perfectly silver so no copper is evident..

It has possibilities, but I would suggest getting it examined by Mke Diamond of CONECA.

Shouldn't the coin be under weight due to the lack of the copper layer? Not much but some.

I would recommend the same what Bob suggested.
The only problem I see is the weight is right on and there is no mint luster.
This is one kind of error that you really can't make a determination 100% without the coin in hand.
Contact Mike Diamond at the below link, and give him the information you provided here and also send your last two pictures. Ask him if he can evaluate the coin by the pictures or if you need to send it to him. He will give you the particulars. Best of Luck!

Thanks, I will do that. I'll send him my odd collection and see what he has to say.

On a side note.....Do any of you error/variety pros ever attend a regional coin show in the OH/IL/IN/MI area? The shows and dealers around here could care less about varieties and errors.....I would love to find a show or someone focused on these?

The 1995 unplated cent I had verified by Mike Diamond was 2.4 grams. Not much, but a key to attributing it properly.
