Don't worry about the top of the earlobe. It's the bottom part that shows the extreme doubling that is important.

Being that you are newer to variety hunting, it's going to take longer to pick out a die related anomaly on details in the head and memorial. There are a multitude of reasons one coin will look a little different than the other. It takes time to be able to file most of these differences under the normal column.

Question: are you searching coins by handheld loupe or by a camera device of some sort?

Question about this DD... Why doesn't the "doubling" duplicate the design element? (In this case, the ear lobe.) The 2 are different in shape. The southern portions run in different directions from one another.

Case in point, the doubling as seen on 1988P-1DO-010 more closely duplicates the ear lobe.

        Thank you.

jcuve, thank you for your willingness to help me! I am using a Carson handheld 60X-100X mini-microscope for viewing detail and a Carson zOrb for photos (which is ok but needs improvement) The zOrb is a USB digital microscope camera that I attach to my laptop so it's convenient, but not super great for pics.

Thank you GrumpyEd.... urggggghhhhhh.... the weird ear on my coin has that same curve in the top portion. Are you guys sure my coins is not a double ear? I have been wondering why on earth my coin has the ear curled up like that.
