Cud, Die break, what do you call this?

I know a cud has to be at the rim, but what is it called when the raised area inside of the break on the coin still has the design elements instead of the blob-ish look cuds have?

Well I'd say the die broke for sure, possibly a retained cud, this one is pretty odd!

While errors aren't my specific area of expertise, I think that is what BJ would consider an interior die break. It does show displacement. But, because it does touch the rim it may qualify as a retained CUD. I'm not certain which it would ultimately be classified as, but you're on the right track Richard. I'm sure BJ will chime in over the next day or two.

From the looks of the die break, it does appear to be a retained cud and also a retained interior die break. I would put it on site if you would send me a full obverse and reverse image.

these are probably the best i can get with my camera/photography skills, but if they are not good enough, I would be happy to send it to you with a SASE to mail it back in. i can send you the pic files if they will suffice.
