Well I guess the title says it. I can't decide if the raised line I see on these two coins is a die crack or a line of zinc rot.
On coin #1 the line is on the obverse side of the coin starting just to the left of the L in Liberty and travels in a straight line to between the I and N in IN. A smaller second line runs parallel to the first one just to the south west of the I in IN. The line is not a consistent thickness but even in the low areas under my 30x it can be faintly seen. The picture does not do it justice but best I could do with my IPhone.
I also have a second coin #2 with the exact same kind of line on the reverse side running from near the NW corner of the Memorial, through the PL in PLURIBUS up through the second S in STATES and stops just shy of the rim. It is a lot fainter.
After reading several articles and what I learned yesterday about zinc rot I can not decide which these lines are. Any thoughts you all have would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
DKheart
