    1969S ddo

    Hello all,

Trying to learn and have a couple questions.

I found a 1969S cent with a doubled date and nose on the obverse.
My question is, would this be considered a common error without any value? Do these type of errors increase in value when the coin for example the 1969s with the doubling on the reverse sells at a high price?

    Thanks for any input.

sounds like Machine Doubling this "problem is common with the 1969 S cents
Pictures of your coin would help us pin this down

get yourself another 1969 S .. look at the sizes of the letters and numbers.
MD will take away the size of the letters... true hub doubling will add something to the size or shape of the letters and numbers.
MD... think of it as... play doh and a mold...
take play doh put it in a mold of a car... remove the play doh... you get a perfect car
push the mold down on the car... slightly off center... you get a squished area and a car...
the squished area looks like a shelf....
This is machine doubling.... the Die bounces and squishes the design element it hits... Like your 1969 S
the raised area plus the shelf area ( that looks like doubling ) will equal the size and shape of a normal 1969 S

for more help in the MD area see a contest I ran awhile back....

It's the 69-S with a strong doubled die on the obverse that sells for big dollars.

The key is "doubled die" not just doubling. Doubling from MD won't add much regardless of if a real doubled die exists for the same year unless someone buys it mistaking it for the doubled die.
