Welcome to the forum, Steve. I am seeing similar (what look to be) gouges on other parts of the obverse as well which extend into the rim. Are all of these extra marks on your coin incuse? (recessed into the coin) or are they raised above the surface of the coin?

Hmmm. The mark at the R extends into the rim, so I really doubt that it is raised. If the other marks at ST are truly raised, it could be from any number of things, such as the plating pushing up from the zinc corroding underneath, to die damage. I don't see any way they can be "extra letters" as there is no evidence of a die clash. (not to mention they don't look like letters, just slashes) Could you possibly supply a clearer close-up shot of the area?
