    Clashed 2014 shield Lincoln penny

    A friend of mine found a 2014 shield penny in change with 2 Lincoln Memorial clashes on shield Does anyone know about this??

    That is known as a vise job. The coins were pressed together and the design was transferred to the cent. There is no way this happened at the mint. Are the letters from the memorial cent backwards? That proves it was pressed in.

          Welcome to the forum. Yes, unfortunately what you have was someone with too much time on their hands. It is intentional damage. We also call this a hammer job, or garage job.

          Garage Job: Also called a squeeze job, vice job, or hammer job, this is intentional post-strike damage when a coin is smashed against another coin or object, usually in an attempt to make it look like a genuine mint error. When squeezed or smashed against another coin, a mirror-image in reverse relief of each coin’s devices will transfer onto the other. Below you can see a mirrored incuse LIBERTY on the coin as the result of being pressed into another cent.

            Owch, that's a harsh one too. Got a couple like that gratis from an old dealer friends' cheapie bin years ago, and they're as bad if not worse.
