1943S RPM? MD?

Here are three different shots of a 1943S steelie...

At first, it appears to be an RPM, but I can't find one listed, so I am skeptical. Could it be MD, or some kind of steel anomaly?

Very cool looking! I wonder if the washed out 4 is related to what's going on with the mm? The S is really high too, up in the date. I look forward to seeing what the pros have to say.

I'm thinking it's been replated and that's causing a pushed plating effect like seen on zincolns.

I think Enamel has it correct on the east side.

But (Middle image) is that a notched lower serif and secondary west on the upper curve? Or just effects of Die deterioration and circulation wear.

I think it's die deterioration, going towards the rim.

That's cool looking... I think the 4 is a strike thru... I see the die flow lines, toward the rim, on the MMs close up... Can you get a full obv and rev pic???

If you search on google for "1943 cent missing 4" there are gazillions of posts about them. People do say they're from being filled but I think it might be that they were weak and abraded away because I don't see why the 43 dies would always clog on the 4 but that is what most folks seem to think.

I didn't know that... Thanks Ed... If it were abraded I'd have thought the surrounding devices would have been affected??? Especially with how little of the 4 is remaining???
