1982 small date zinc Circle Stamp on 82

I found one of these 82's in a bank roll back in Dec, and another today, change from the food store.
It's some sort of stamp going into the coin, but not seen on the other side.

Is this some sort of party club marking?

And on the reverse, a web of scratches or cracks around America. I can't tell if die related or not.

To me it looks like damage from the punch on the front. Appears someone had too much time on their hands.

It looks copper.
What is the weight?

So it is zinc.
And we've had some posts in the past about the copper plating cracking like Enamel said.
Lots of times because of science experiments with cold. (Dry ice & Nitrogen come to mind)

Doesn't look cracked, but rather definitive; almost like you would take the end of a round straw and make an impression of it on a piece of soft clay; the edges of the straw would make an indent in the clay.

Sorry, I should have said the cracking that is on the reverse is probably a result of when the semi- circle on the front was applied.

I agree. It matches the location. The other 82 that I found in Dec, which has the same circle on 982, doesn't have the cracking on reverse. I don't have a picture of that one, I'll have to find it tomorrow.

Looks like some one was practicing counter stamp techniques Like you said the rev was damaged when the obv was struck... How does the full rev look??? If the rev looks like the obv some one destroyed a very nice 82P small date zincoln... Other than the damaged date the obv looks nearly in tact and that is not easy to find on the very early frankenzincs!!!

Yes, they made all the states and a board you could plug them into.

There are lots of other things you will find, the Kennedy ones, Masonic ones, Space ones, Bicentennial, you name it.

Reckon, it will be a trek. Maybe Space Trek. I love that, but haven't seen any yet. Well, since I only started in Dec, I guess it will be a long time learning ( I am a fan of Star Trek)
