I work at a bank and I noticed on the end of a roll of pennies a 1998-P lincoln cent with a strange golden color. It also has what looks like a raised ripple on the memorial side. It almost looks like its been made out of the same material as a Sacagawea or one of the new presidential dollar coins. Anyone ever heard of this?

1998 golden penny?
Here are some pictures of the penny by itself and compared to others. Even with the best settings on my camera you still can't see the full extent of the color. Any ideas as to what kind of error this is?Comment

With that weird PMD, which was probably heat related or heat assisted, that might have altered the color.
Or it might be related the brass strikes Joe linked to...

If you would like to see a neat video of how some people change the colors of lincoln cents, go to, cointalk.com, click on "errors", then find a title, 2009 lincoln penny cabin all silver. There is a web site, but I don't know how to get it here.

Happens all the time, nothing unusual. Not sure about the "ripple" without better pictures. Most likely it's post mint damage, but it could also be large gas bubble. There's nothing about this coin that would make it worth submitting to a TPG.VERDI-CARE™ ALL METAL CONSERVATION FLUIDComment
