1916 Lincoln cent, owned it for 45 years.

Hi all. First time here. Started collecting coins when I was 13 or 14. I saw this 1916 in the window in one of the shops on Bromfield St. in Boston, around 1975 or so. Nothing special collector-wise, but it had the most beautiful purple glow. I am sorry I cannot capture it in the pictures. So I bought it ... probably cost me a month's allowance.

I've kept it ever since; had it graded about 10 years ago just for fun. One of my favorite coins even if it's not worth much. The luster is really amazing, and it's never changed.

There's something about a brownish-purple old Lincoln cent that is just so nice to see.

Very nice cent. The early cents just have a special appeal that one desires to look at them. My favorite coin is a 1934 D silver dollar I got when I was a kid. About 1980, the small store by our house was owned by an old man who knew I was collecting coins and sold it to me for 1.00. All these years later I looked at it and it was the major DDO for that issue as well. I could never part with it.
Even a fool can look wise if he keeps his mouth closed.

That's a very nice 1916 cent. It looks beautiful. I grew up in Boston and know that area well. If I am not mistaken, it was just down the street from the Park Street Church. I left there (Boston) in 1974 for Military Service and haven't been back much since, but I started my collecting hobby there. That is a real nice coin and the story is even better about how it appealed to you.

Exactly right, one of those little streets that connects Tremont and Washington Sts. A number of coin dealers there; the oldest was J. J. Teaparty.

Thanks, folks. I wish I could take a good picture of this 1c, it really has a nice glow. Always has had!

1915 and 1916 are some of the best struck Lincoln's. Nice coin!
