    1943 S RPM?

I have this 1943 S that looks to be an RPM. I'm not very familiar with RPMs and wondered if anyone here can tell me anything about this one. The "4" in the date looks weak, but shows some sort of doubling as well. Am I seeing things? Am I trying too hard?

I'm definitely not an RPM guy but to me, it looks more like a plating issue. I'm sure you'll get a better answer from the RPM experts here.
    Good luck,

Not an RPM. Die deterioration is the main culprit here. As Rock points out, the plating is also at fault.
