    1960 D/D DDO sm/lg RPM-100 with grease fill

A while back I had the opportunity to buy a group of these coins, BU, and most have graded well at PCGS and NCG, but 6 of them had this appearance which looks like grease filling. Unfortunately it obliturates the RPM, although from the markers, it is apparent it the DDO. These came out of the same roll as the normal ones, but I am hesitant to send them to be graded. All 6 are identical, so it isn't post mint damage.

I had never seen this defect with this coin before I got these, so thought someone else may have ran into them, or would like to see it.

That is really interesting even though it obscures the DDO and eradicates the RPM, never seen one like that - thanks for posting.

That is definitely a struck through error, and a spot of high viscosity grease is the most likely culprit. Of course, it had to be in the date/MM area huh?

Oh man, that really sucks. I would hate to be the one who found those. A real day killer.

From the buyer's end, I wouldn't be in the market for them at any premium...unfortunately. Different strokes, I know, but these would be really hard to sell with that problem, unfortunately - even though the problem was created at the mint.

Yes, It did rub a little the wrong way But as it was mint made, I felt obligated to go with the deal, which was basically a package. I did get a small rebate due to them, but I agree, only someone who really wants a wide variety of them, might be interested in one at a good reduction. I have been hesitant to see if they would slab, although most agree that they should, I probably won't so so at the present. I am happy that of the others, 10 were sent to both NGC and PCGS. NGC BBed 2 for obverse cleaning which I find as fine polish lines, and the other 8 were 1-63, 3-64, 4-65. PCGS graded 2-63, 7-64, 1-65. So hopefully in the long run, the die filled ones will be insignificant.
