    1909 vdb

Hi. This is my first post so take it easy on me and my horrible pictures...

I just aquired my first 1909 vdb and while taking a look at it, I noticed some doubling on the 'VDB' and nowhere else on the coin.

Would you say this is mechanical doubling, a ddr or something else?

Also, is it a common die variety that shows only one period in the designers initials?

Thanks for taking a look at this one.

Silly Newbie Posts In The Wrong Category.

Yep, I just noticed the question should have been posted in the next category...my apologies.

      Welcome to the forum!
This coin can go into the You Make the Call category, I don't see a problem.

The doubling is probably as you suspect, Machine Doubling (MD), sometimes called mechanical or strike doubling. The periods the initials seem to have gotten grease clogged rather easily as I have noticed different periods disappear or almost disappear now and then...

Welcome to the forum and your pictures are great, I meant really great. I have not heard that phrase since I was in the Navy; Gerry mandering, very clever,

LOL, I didn't even notice the name-Navy connection. May bad, being ex-Navy, I may have to turn in my secret code Squid whistle.

Your pics are perfect. If you are comparing them with our Jason's photos, well, don't; He is a type of anomoly himself - a class all his own - his photos are the work of perfection and great artistic talent, as well as technical prowess... a bit intimidating, eh?

          Welcome to the club !

Well, HI and HOWDY... indeed, now I think 'Gerry Mandering' was your real name and I think it is quite interesting and cool.
Your pictures are great, and the coin looks really nice.

Thanks for all the input and for the welcome to the forum. I tend to lurk since I'm fairly new to collecting so I wont post much - but I'll enjoy learning from all the info and opinions found here.

As for my username - I had no idea it was used in the Navy...I was just familiar with it because of its political usage. So, what is 'gerrymandering' in the Navy? Hopefully, it is not too derogatory to be used here as my persona! Off topic question but I may as well find out what it is from the military standpoint.
