1964-D I have no idea- heavy clash die? Rotated?

I found this reverse when I was looking for a nice example of the DDO to send Dr. Wiles it's a BU 64-D. This may have destroyed the first reverse die and later ones would have different marker's. I only found one in a half roll.

It appears the columns are all there plus a huge die break near the lower right of the MONTICELLO. Anyone have any ideas what happened here?

I see PMD on the reverse and a class VIII DDO on the obverse. Congrats!

It's not PMD on the reverse. It came from a roll this way

I'll call it PSD (Post Strike Damage) on the reverse. Somewhere along the line before being rolled the coin was banged up. LIBERTY shows hub doubling, either class VIII or V (maybe a hybrid). Nice find!

If a coin is inside the original roll it was packaged in, it does not exclude PMD. There is plenty of chance for it to get damaged, and it happens quite regularly.

Monticello? That would be the Lincoln memorial. Lol. Anyway, I agree, PMD.

Ok, folks OK... I'm just having trouble seeing how only the REV could be damaged from a roll. The OBV is a nice shinny BU with no problems.... It also has what looks like a huge die break happening over the "T" in Cent.

Jason: Has anyone ever seen a Coneca 64-D DDO-002 or 004? I can almost pic the marker for #2 but not sure... It's funny - the only reason I have these coins is because they have a minor split serif RPM on the upper Serif....

I do not see a die break on the T of cent. Please remember that a die break will be raised on the struck coin. All I see are indentations on the coin, and lots of them. It is impossible for a die to receive any damage that a coin can. Think about that.

You are having trouble seeing how a coin can be damaged on only one side? Or are you having trouble seeing how a coin can be damaged when it came from original rolls? I assure you that coins are damaged regularly before they are wrapped up and even during the wrapping. Sometimes even a coin inside a roll can be damaged, especially if it is the coin at either end and if it is one of those rolls that leave the coin showing. Before being packaged there is plenty of time for the coin to be damaged on either or both sides. Heads you win, tales you lose... fling!!! Ping!!! "It fell on the..."

I have not seen dies 002 or 004 in person and I am not sure anyone has found them specifically and posted on LCR yet, but there has been some class V extra Ls before. Brian Ribar appears to have a DDO-002 for sale (witch also appears to be 1DO-001); he shows a doubled 4 that apparently goes along with the L. Coppercoins.com has others too, yours looks closer to 1DO-004 or 005. A new one? Maybe Bob will chine in...

                            Eric,

I have the 64-D DDO#2 available in my ebay store. http://cgi.ebay.com/1964-D-Ddo-2-Lin...item563d56390d I'll take some close-ups of the markers when time permits or I can send you a copy.
