Hi, I'll guess, if you didn't get those out of a roll yourself, the clerk who broke that roll open was not to pleased about shorting her cash register, Without seeing the edge, I would have thought they were washer's. Are they worth collecting or just novelty?
I bought a few these myself just out of curiosity; they are odd. People collect them, but to a degree, they really could just be viewed as PSD couldn't they?

Thanks for sharing Frank.
Thats a good question. PSD. I guess you could say that but it was the mint that did it. So would that still be PSD? I would think anything out side the mint is PSD. This is a good question for Bob or Mike.
I didn't get them from the bank.I pick them up on ebay.
I've never heard of anyone finding these in a roll, so my question is: where do they come from? Does the mint sell them, or are mint employees smuggling them and making money on them?

I'm not sure if the mint gift shop sells them or not. I really don't know where or how people get them.
This is where definitions get technical. It is technically PSD but not technically PMD. Post-strike means after the actual strike. Post-Mint means after it left the Mint. So it is PSD but not PMD. But then, they have generally been collectable as novelties.

I would imagine that some detail of the design can still be seen. My understanding of waffled coins is that they were used to cancel damaged/error coins and the mint would have no reason to cancel blanks.

That was my understanding too Jody....I had to go back and look at the pics then change my post....but I think you are right...there must be some remnant of a strike.
There is no marks of a strike. I bought these on ebay. I thought they were state quarters but maybe I'm wrong. Here is what the auction said.
THIS IS A QUARTER BLANK PLANCHET WAFFLED BY THE US MINT YOU GET 1 COIN LIKE THE ONE IN PHOTO YOU WILL GET A RANDOM COIN FROM MY INVENTORY OF A BLANK QUARTER PLANCHET WAFFLED
THIS IS A WAFFLE COIN WAFFLED BY THE U.S. MINT THE COINS I SELL DO NOT HAVE PAPERS AND ARE SOLD AS IS YOU WILL GET A RANDOM WAFFLED BLANK FROM MY INVENTORY THE COINS ARE WAFFLED FOR VARIOUS REASONS COULD BE ERROR MISPRINT ETC
CURRENTLY I ONLY ACCEPT PAYPAL OR CREDIT CARDS THROUGH PAYPAL I WILL COMBINE SHIPPING IF INTERESTED
I guess you're right about not being struck, as I definitely can't see anything. I wondered why they were waffled then? The blank was cut the wrong shape? You would think that there would be no motivation to waffle a blank round piece of metal. Strange. I just hope now that these were waffled by the Mint and not some outside job.
