[Tip] MD and a doubled die on the same coin

    Hi all,

Came across this 1964D DDR because I know how much we all love those. This one was a little tricky, though, because it had machine doubling and a class II DDR, which looks very similar to machine doubling. In these pictures, the black arrows point to the actual doubling; notice the notching on the leg of the N, as well as parts of the E. The red arrows point to the parts of the coin affected by machine doubling. Note that the machine doubling is flat and shelf-like, whereas the class II doubling is rounded.
As a side note, I have been messing around with my lighting, so let me know if it looks good or not.
    Thanks,

    SS

I think the lighting looks good. Also nice find! Good example to show that a doubled die can also have md.

Nice example. I feel like MD in similar places is a little more common on early to mid '60s DDRs such as this. Chris' '64 DDR-020 that I photographed last year, which was an EDS, had MD on the doubled sections of CENT making it almost look like tripling.

Simon, for some reason some people cannot see your pictures. Can you re-post them when you have a chance?

Huh, that's weird. I will put them back up when I get home.
