    Bow Ties

    Again with a question.

I was going through pennies I had set back for looking at later and came across a lot of 2005 pennies with, what appears to be, different bow tie styles? I was wondering what they were doing during 2005 or if they are all supposed to be the same? Here's pictures of what i'm talking about.

    Thanks in advance.

    -edit-
upon taking closer images, they kind of look PSD? But that still leaves the length of the 2nd flap being different sizes?

I would attribute what you are seeing as a hit, maybe MD and some die wear. An area like this (the bow-tie) is unlikely to be affected by any foreseeable force that would really alter it is some meaningful and collectible way. Keep up the hunt!

Forgive me, but what do you mean by "attribute" it?

To attribute means to ascribe a cause to something, to diagnose. He is explaining why your coin looks the way it does.

It's a bird! It's a plane! Aw nuts... It's merely two die scratches!

Maybe not the best choice of words, attribute, being it is often used in another context with coins all the time - my mistake.

HI Scott99 I think your discovery and question were very good. If you are not sure this should be the best place to ask. Someone with background and knowledge will ralize one with 25 posts might not be familar with all of the jargon and take a few extra lines to explain their conclusion and the reasons for it.

I am not a person that can answer your questions. I wish I could offer more help.

Thanks! I just hate being the one that asks the questions that the answers are easy. In any case, I am learning a lot from everyone on here be it questions i've asked, or pictures/questions of coins others have posted. While some I don't see what anyone is talking about, most i see how the conclusion was drawn upon.

I guess all in good time. I've decided to stop looking at the coin head-on, seems the reflections and ddd becomes quite deceiving.
