    1990 No S Proof Cent

    Hi All,

Unfortunately I do not have any pics, but I was in my local coin store last night and the manager showed me an unopened 1990 proof set that contained a No S proof penny. Lucky for them one of the part-timers noticed it and set it aside. As far as I know there are ~200 examples known. I knew of the variety but never thought I would get to see one in person. It was pretty exciting seeing that.

    Thanks
    Greg

Cool that you got to see it, but sucks that the part-timer knew about it at all..Could of been a nice cherrypick!!!!!

Awesome find on his part! How much was he asking for it?

I don't think they set a price on it yet. They are going to wait until they have it slabbed.

DANG! I would have offered him $300 cash right now and see what he thought. Then I'd go up in $100 increments to about $500 to test his will. You have to consider he probably only had $10 or less in that set. You missed an opportunity.

I would rather have that coin in its original proof case than have it cracked out into a TPG slab. Just me.

Yes i agree i would not break that set either, i would leave it just like it is, i think that is close to $5,000.00 do not hold me to it but i know it is high. Also like badthad said i would of offered on the spot for it also who know's he would have crumbled and you could have walked out with it. I never seen one in person either.

I watched this coin double in value since around 2003 from $2500- $5000. It was pushing the $6500 mark in late 2009, and is now back down to around $5000 depending on the grade. I got one by trading a handful of varieties and was ever glad that I did as the varieties I can find, while just about everyone looks out for the No S.
