    82's

Is there anyway to tell the 82 series of pennies apart other than weighing? I keep all the small date 82's seperate.

Weight is the best - I would just use a nice digital scale from eBay. Sound can sometimes do it, but I would still double check it by weight.

Another way is to look for plating bubbles indicating a zinc one. It helps narrow the amount you need to weigh.

Even after a few years of millions of coins searched I still need a scale to weigh the 82 coins.
The digital scales are quite inexpensive on ebay, and can come in handy for checking out other coins.

i like to do the quick drop test on my desk

a sharp ring is copper and a thud is zinc ,,but usual i can tell just by looking anyways
and the weight in my hands too

The ring test is rather definitive. If you place the coin on your index finger and ding the rim with another coin, the copper will resonate with a high pitched ring and anything zinc will be much more of a dull thud.
