    Design Extension Dimples

I know, it sounds sort of weird. However, that is the name for a new die anomaly. It will have a designation of DEDO or DEDR and I have started a page on the traildies.com site for this anomaly type (big hint). This is the link to that page:

One other piece of great news is that Mike Diamond has joined the staff of traildies.com as an adviser. Thanks Mike for coming along with us.

Ok, so the anomaly extends inward from the outward design elements. So it's entirely different from what I've seen. Curious anomaly! No clue here!

And this is the only example so far and we don't know if this anomoly extends to any other denomination yet. Correct?

Ohmigosh! I have seen that many times and thought only that it had to do with a die movement problem, such as a loosened die collar.
This means I have to go back through many coins and see if I can find some to send to you. Yikes!

I thought I seem something similar on 2010 lincoln cents before.

Something we need to keep in mind on this. The anomaly travels to the center of the coin. What most of us have probably seen is where a like anomaly is between the tops of the letters and the rim. This is a result of die deterioration, and not the dimpled die. The direction is what makes this unique.

I have one question: Since the dimples go toward the center of the die, how could this be the result of hub/die movement? Such movement should go offset, rotated, or pivoted rotation, or a combination of the same, not? I suppose that if this really is movement toward the center in the the presses, it would have to be a movement that somehow sucked everything inward while yet kissing the die, or something like that. Not?

While I am not to sure, this could be cause from unequal contraction of the hub to the die while they are still in place against each other and not under pressure.
