    Gook on a silver dollar---Thad?

So I bought this silver dollar last year at a coin show here in central Florida. I received it in a plastic holder and have noticed that this funny gook has appeared along with a small black spot. What exactly could this be and should I use something to attempt to remove it? I've done nothing thus far until I get some suggestions hopefully by someone who may have experience in this area. Thad, would you make a recommendation??
    Thanks
    -Chris

Looks like PVC stain. Acetone will remove it. Not sure what luster will be lost on that coin. PVC and silver a No No.

It almost looks like a carbon spot. If that's the case, it is there for good. The toning around it almost looks like PVC damage as Rollem suggests.

Eagles are mostly silver, 99.9+ and I think the balance copper. It doesn't look at all like PVC damage IMO, most like it's a carbon spot as best as I can tell. Silver is running high, personally, I'd sell it and buy a Lincoln.

I think it is a carbon spot, and in my experience it won't take very long for it to develop verdigris.

in all honesty, a dealer wouldn't notice or care, if you're partial to the coin, trade it for another- it'll cost you a couple of bucks at your local shop. But I agree with the idea of turning it into Lincolns, compared to last year's silver prices, you'll do very well.

If you would like to have a silver coin to hold for some appreciation then sell it and with a couple added dollars buy something silver which is special. you should come out a winner or buy a nice Lincoln.
