    Trustworthy rolls source??

Hi everyone. I'm considering buying a few rolls of OBW LC's and I'm looking for advice as to whom a trusted source or sources might be. I'm open to the ebay possibility, albeit a bit skittish. Unless I get a name from one of you guys that has had no problems and someone whom you thoroughly recommend. I appreciate the info anyone can give, good or bad. Take care and God bless.

chris, i cant say i think ebay would be the way to go. i had great luck with a add in my local paper and letting people know by way of mouth, letting them know you buy coins. truth is is always a long shot, but i found my first 36 die #2 from an add in the paper not long ago, i even posted it on here, those would be the methods i would use,\. ebay lots i would say stay away. word of mouth is great!

Nothing wrong with tubed rolls. Most collectors haven't searched them for varieties. In general I actually prefer tubed rolls so I can see what I'm buying. I've opened up a lot of OBW rolls to find them full of corroded or spotted coins from improper storage. I bought most of my rolls from my dealer.

I would say try to build a reputation with a dealer close to you so you can examine what you are getting. This may take several visits of buying single selected coins and see what he charges and what grade coins you get. I have been burned with whizzed coins and won't do business with people who are not trustworthy. You should be able to see what you are getting and be able to trust the source of those coins. My simple answer is take some time to find a good source. you may have to pay a higher price but it is worth the effort. I will recommend L & C coins or Wayne Herndon Rare Coins. Call them first and let them know exactly what you are looking for.

When I joined the LCR, I had decided not to mix business with (forum) family. But I do have an overstock on OBW rolls from a recent buying trip. I'm not so much trying to sell them as I am offering an education on smart OBW roll buying. Soon, I'll put listing on the trading post offering some different years of OBW rolls. Prices will be real, but will be below well eBay prices. With any OBW purchase, I'll happily share what I have learned about finding and recognizing genuine OBW rolls.

As I have the time, it would be fun to do a Q & A thread on vintage OBWs. This could be beneficial for anyone who participates. It'll take some time, but I'll commit the bulk of the OBWs that I'm willing to part with to the members of this forum. I don't need top dollar to make a buck and everyone's happy. The added benefit will be the opportunity for me to spit out all these weird things I've learned about OBWs in the last 20 years (holy crap! I'm old enough to say "20 years ago in coins"! lol). I learn when typing out my thoughts, things I wouldn't have reflected on if I wasn't externalizing.

My hopes are that fewer forum members will be conned into purchasing re-wraps from shady sellers. It takes less time and effort to be honest, than all the work it takes to deceive! I don't get it, some people are so short sighted.

The other answer to your question Chris, about where to buy OBW rolls- find yourself a local dealer or two that you can trust. Let them know of your interest in buying rolls. If you have the budget for it- tell him you'd buy all the BU rolls he gets, or at least all the "sealed bankwrapped" rolls. If you are good at making friends, and stay in touch frequently, you'll have a ready source if the dealer doesn't already have a strong customer for them. As a dealer, it's much easier to buy something that walks through your door if you know you already have a customer wanting. Best wishes and happy collecting, -Chris.
