jfines69 Kind of hard to bake a coin without it touching anything....I'm still lost on that part
As to BJ's note about splotching,I kind of agree, but then again almost anything on the coin could cause that... some light residue left from the wash or even moisture, but I wll say my pics don't do it justice...it is pretty much a very deep purple and hard to capture.
TTB, if I can duplicate this, I'll be glad to send you one....but I'm waiting on detailed instructions from jallengomez, he seems to have a handle on it.Comment

The link below will give you a few recipes, but it's simple. Stick it in an oven at about 350 or so and leave in until you get the desired results. If you've got a wire roasting you can rest it between two of the wires, or if you've got a cookie sheet, simply balance it on the rim. The oven works wonders with proof coins, but if you want more elaborate results see the link below:jfines69 Kind of hard to bake a coin without it touching anything....I'm still lost on that part

Well, I checked the site and no recipes for what I have. Laying it on wire should cause contact marks so I will try to balance the coin on a cookie sheet...but even that sounds a bit difficult unless I can find a perfectly flat cookie sheet and a perfectly level oven. Then trying to see the results would probably cause it to fall.
I will give it a try on Monday, but may I ask if you've actually tried this at home ?Comment

I have done it myself. On both proof Cents and Nickels...keep in mind that there are also other ways to achieve what you are seeing. I'll try to dig out some of my proof Lincolns and post a few examples tomorrow.(If I can find them!)Well, I checked the site and no recipes for what I have. That would be cool....the balancing part still puzzles me though as cookie sheets tend to flex when heated...doesn't that cause the coin to fall ? And what are the other ways ? The closest thing on your link said the purple and blue could be achieved but it would dull the coin. I only have two copper proofs to play with so I want to get it right

I think the coins that article is talking about are business strikes...proofs are a whole different matter in my experience. Don't kill one of your proofs! I've got a few rolls of basically worthless low grade proofs from the 60's that I'll play around with and post the results. That would be cool....the balancing part still puzzles me though as cookie sheets tend to flex when heated...doesn't that cause the coin to fall ?
