Notable eBay finds- is eBay cherrypickable?

    Hello all,

Lately I've been extensively scouring eBay for steals. Haven't really seen any. I'm wondering if anyone here has had notable finds on eBay and profited from them. Thanks!

While I haven't profited from it since it's not going to be sold, my best find to date was my '55 DDO which I got out of a lot of 500 wheats that I purchased on Ebay. The person I bought them from was not a coin dealer, but obviously judging by his past history just an online yard-sale type seller. When buying lots of wheats I try to look for those types.

I just bought a set of 1943-, 1943-D, and 1943-S NGC 67 Lincolns for about 2/3 their normal price. However, the best I have done was a 1923-S I bought for $31 and had to pay $20 to get it certified as a 63RB. Now 23-S's are the rarest certified Lincoln with red and I have seen then go for as much as $1500. (Yes, there are fewer 23-S's certified red or RB than the 26-S's.) BTW, I think mine is the best 63 I have seen so far. I also paid $192 for the 31-D. Then NGC wound up paying me $350 plus another 1931-D MS65 RB under their warranty.

It's the one in my avatar photo. I wouldn't exactly say I cherrypicked it, but just got lucky purchasing from someone who had an old bag of wheats "in the back of a closet" as he described it. When I found it I got in touch will Bill Fivaz who lives close to me and he authenticated it and turned it over to ANACS at the FUN show. They graded it AU details/whizzed.

I cherry picked a 1970-S Proof Set containing a a FS-105 (030.6) DDO of which I broke out and sent to NGC and it came back PF65RD. I bought the set advertised as a Small Date Set.

There would be a lot more cherry picking, if the photos were better!!!

What are you saying? You can't cherry pick images like this?

I got a 1873 Indian Snow #1 in vg condition for 3.99 about 6 months ago. The item had a very bad photo and the description was brief leaving it open to grab cheap. When it arrived I was jumping up and down.
But on the other hand I bought a 1970 S small date that was an altered large date for 13.00. I have returned it hopefully getting refunded. Photo of the tool marks show in my photo posted here.

You sure about that 1970-S, uglycent? It looks fine to me, but then I can only see the photos.
