John, A lot of the pics on the traildies site are from folks who collected them without knowing what they were. I know that I had over 50 of them before BJ did all the research and we decided to put the traildies.com site out there. There are plenty of really nice trails in 1994, 1998 and 1999, with plenty of really strong examples. Here is the link to the top 50. http://www.traildies.com/id96.html

Wander around the site, it is well worth taking a peek.
As far as states and other denominations, they have been found just about everywhere. The longer they are in circulation, the more likely they are to travel around the country. You can access the different denominations from the left hand side of the home page: http://www.traildies.com/

Pennsylvania and Florida seem to have their fair share.

Have had luck in Massachusetts with a few neat ones, just have to take a week to compare notes with traildies.com on ones I still have to figure out. Why I just spent 2 straight days figuring a 1996 and still not sure I got it right. But that site is sure awesome! Have to go back and check on my quarters, dimes and nickels I set aside for some reason or other.

East of the Mississippi seems to have more than west of the Mississippi. It may be that Denver mint produces less trail dies than does the Philadelphia mint. However, I feel that less people are searching rolls, bricks in the west than the east. As to states; look for states that have high tourist concentrations and that is where you will find the greatest diversity of trail dies.

I think that's the case for us in the Nashville area. I don't necessarily find a lot of one thing (except the 2011-004 DDO) but a little bit of a variety, ie; a fair amount of S mint, Canadian and foriegn, WAMs and this would include Trails. Not a lot of Trails but a fair share. People are always coming and going to these big country music events, Opry land, plus we have some decent manufacturing here, so people are in and out all the time which makes for fun roll searching.
