MAJOR THEFT OF ERROR and VARIETY COINS

Unfortunately, it has happened again. Joe and Jean Gallo were returning home from doing the Tennessee State Numismatic Society show when their entire inventory of coins was stolen. I will provide a list of the items, some of which were high end, especially the 1969-S Lincoln cent with a doubled die obverse. If you are offered to buy any of these coins or hear that they are for sale, please contact the authorities as soon as possible.

This is just terrible. There's alot of things that insurance can pay for, but a collection like this is priceless. Some crackhead probably stole it. I'm going to go "shopping" and see what I can find.

Do you know the general area that the collection was stolen? It is a terrible, terrible injustice to have such a nice collection stolen.

Strikes fear in all of us...

Disastrous news, and all solaces are sent out to you. Unfortunately, with the data mining the government is doing, there is no telling whether it was a crack junkie, or part of an organized force like the TSA folks who were busted selling Airline thefts on EBAY. Those guys punked the system for 11 months, and what we as a collecting community have to fear is just WHY the Patriot ACT required all dealers to report gold sales. Very troubling, our lives offered up to so many needlessly. Maybe we can get our data out of their hands this time, because this was a knowledgeable effort, just begging the question as to who had the resources to do such a thing. It could happen to all or any of us.

I take every opportunity to state publicly that I keep my coins in a safety deposit box... which is true.... and that helps me sleep at night.

Brad - I am a bit more drastic. A loaded 12 Ga. (legal) short barrel is beside my bed. 20 years of military experience leaves me no qualms in using it in any circumstance.

At one time I was an avid duck hunter, but since my knees are not in the best of shape, I did give that sport up.

The Remington 870 has always been my choice and the safety is never off, unless it is a tenth of a second before I fire. As the 870 leaves my shoulder, the safety is already back on; I actually do this all sub-consciously, but still remember to check the results.

Now the 870 sits in a corner, well oiled, with four, double aught buck shot in the magazine and none in the chamber. I feel safe and so does the wife.

Home as a castle is obsolete.

Those who consider the average burglar is their greatest enemy are not in touch with US Law. The "home is a man's castle" concept was officially rescinded with the Patriot Act. Before you post a response saying that what I say is not so, spend several days reading it, then each subsequent revision, then read the new FBI rules on surveillance (there is no requirement on suspicion of anything before they implement surveillance any longer) and understand that the US Government is using satellites in local law enforcement operations (since October 1, 2008). If you couple these things with their insistence on the reporting of gold coinage sales to collectors, then it sets in on you that what is afoot in America is a perfect storm of theft ...on the one hand by common crooks, and on the other hand by deep-seeded organized crime teams within law enforcement circles, who are accountable to no one. New World Order? No, think New World Coin Order. All our stuff is theirs.

Kinda curious as to what brought all that on Legend? I don't think anyone implied that burglary was public enemy number 1. The guys were just talking about protecting their homes, families, and possessions and it was in good fun considering the tragedy of the subject theft. We weren't talking about surveillance, the FBI, national security, Patriot Act, or anything of the sort.
This is one other case of where I believe politics should be left elsewhere.

                              A Cautionary tale only.

Yep, your right. Everything is totally OK in America, no need to express anything but good feelings here on our escape hatch. Will not happen again.
BTW, Have ya noticed other boards where people speak out, BJ? People stop posting there once they sense there is no freedom of thought. Often those other boards spend days and days without anyone posting. Once discourse on the state of our nation is lost, so are we...
