    Satin cents, ah poor collector

Im wondering why these coins ended up in circulation,my question is do the satin set cost cheaper than the proofs.. I got these coins from a Variety Store..They always set aside all their cents for me ...

First off you need to explain what "Satin Cents" are.

"Satin" is the type of finish used on mint set coins since 2004, however in 2009 Satin cents were made from copper! Have not seen any yet in circ. Nice Find!

I'm still a little confused about Satin finishing on coins.

Tea=party, in your original post, is it the middle coin you are referring to as Satin? I've re-read previous post about these but many of my coins seem to bear this finish, so it has left me thinking that I'm not completely grasping the whole "Satin" thing.

            Thanks.

Hi Lara, In 2009 the mint made proofs and satin cents out of 95% copper. One way to know a satin coin is to weigh it,it should be 3.0 grams.Im a little new to this whole satin cents so I cant go fatrther with my limited info. Sorry!

Are you using a rydale or other comparator to separate cents? If not, you have an incredible eye to catch those! Great finds either way!

Not to be nit-picky, but a copper cent should weigh 3.11 grams.

Not uncommon to find satins in circulation. The mint may have dumped some to meet production goals. Also collectors dump them just as they do proofs. The ability to distinguish them is an art and you sir, are an artist!!

Chugly, the coins do weigh 3.11g. I may have been rushing when posting..I only use plain eye siight when finding these coins,to me they stick out like a sore thumb..I used to toss them back into the pile, until I'd decided to ask questions about the weight.

I have all of the satin cents.....they conveniently fit into a single binder page. They are very collectible due to the low mintages.
