1979 Magazine Ad for a 1943 Copper Penny

Ran across this advertisement in a 1979 Movie Mirror magazine and thought it was interesting. Some investment firm took out an advertisement in a series of magazines to buy a 1943 Copper (Bronze) penny for $3,000 if any were found by someone.

Seemed like a GREAT deal back then but as the years went by and top dollar for these rarities were actualized, the folks who did find these specimens and cashed in are probably kicking themselves.

    Enjoy

I read or heard that the mint guy that ran the 43 coppers (5) placed ads and offered to buy them if found for $500.00 All the while he had the coins.

Also said he acquired his with 500 dollar purchases. But was found out by government and served time in jail. Anyone know if this story is true or not.
