I see what you are seeing Ken, but the complete profile of the ear looks normal. A doubled die wouldn't be raised higher than the normal ear. I don't know exactly what it is, but I feel confident that it is not a doubled die.

The ear looks completely normal. What's throwing you off is that the 2006's were very weakly hubbed/struck, that alot of the detail tends to fade; not to mention, the mint seemed to have overused their dies. Turn a 2006-P over sometime and tell me if you can see any steps on the memorial, then you'll have your answer ;)
I have found a few like that Ken where the area just above the lobe is raised. Had to look twice at what I was seeing. Also appeared there was extra lobe area.
