Before I spend zinc pennies, what should I check for?

Right now I am collecting 83 or older pennies. I am not concern about checking those for errors yet since I am not spending them. I keep the 82 and 83 separate since they could be either copper or zinc and need to be weighed. I don't have a scale yet so they will sit until then. Before I spend my "rejected" 84 and newer zinc coins, what should I look for? I am checked for everything on this website:

Are there errors not mentioned on that page? Is there anything to look for on the years not mentioned: (85,86,87,88,90,91,93,96,01,02,04,05,06,07)? I am having trouble with some double dies. I am going through ebay and classified ads to see what they look like. Some of them look "normal" to me. I could only pick out the obvious doubling but I don't think I could pick out a doubled ear if I saw one. Thanks

1988 p & d RDV-006 is not mentioned. check out the resource it has a lot of great information on there as well.

Information and pictures of the 1988 P and D RDV 6 Transitional Varieties with flared initials on the reverse.

by the way all 1983's are zinc. 1982's can be either zinc or copper.

1983 has been found to have a Copper penney left over from 1982. You need to weigh the coins. Mr. Crawford (DVN) found one earlier this year and they are worth a considerable amount of money. Proper weight for 1983 is 2.5 Grams and the one struck on copper (naturally) weighs 3.11 Grams. Just a tidbit of information for you. Happy Hunting!

zpmada welcome to the forum. The link you provided is a good link. The site hasn't been ukpdated since 2006 which wouldn't reflect the going rates of Cents. The dates you provided there are Varieties and errors in that list you need to at least save if not look for. AgCollector has posted link's to a list of what to look for.
