A local coin dealer has a bunch of mint sets laying around that he is going to be getting rid of. I was going to search them to look for some possible finds and wondering if anyone knows of any errors or certain dates to look for? Don't think its a lot of older stuff probably 1990 and newer but not sure. If buying any, which year would be the one and also again any errors making a year special? thanks.
mint sets which one?

etc etc
Odds of finding anything is probably slim to none though (after all there are only 2 cents in each pack). I enjoy collecting them though. Have them from my birth year to present. Just remember starting in 05 they are satin finish and not business strikes.
Goodluck!THOMAS J.

You can keep an eye out for the "normal" stuff...92 CAM's,98,99,00 WAM's, 95 ddo, etcComment

I've bought a few mint sets without any success of finding anything beyond the normal. Including a fingerprint on one of the pennies in the package! lol
Hope you find something worth while, and be sure to look at all the coins. Not just the Lincolns.Matthew SalleeComment

The following varieties are all known to have had highly concentrated populations in mint sets-
There are others in this era, but these are the highlights:
1963 DDO Quarter
1966 Kennedy Half DDO (several dozen different dies)
1967 DDO Quarter
1968-D DDR Quarter (very valuable)
1969-D/D North Dime (near complete separation)
1970-D DDR Dime (2 different- quite available)
1970-D DDO Quarter (very valuable)
1970-D DDR Quarter (2 different also-both are fairly common)
1970-D Quarter struck on Dime Stock
1970-S/S RPM #1 Cent
1970 No S cent (ha- just kidding, that one is made in Philly!)
1971-D DDO Half (2 different)
1974-D DDO Half (very cherrypickable)
Not aware of too much later than this.Chris & Charity Welch- LIVEANDIEVARIETIES

If I was buying or trading again for proof sets - not looking for errors - I would get the 1950-1964 in original packaging, buying them with seeing them in person. I also at one time had. The box sets from 1950-1954 (I believe)
The ultimate set would be from the mint in 1909-1916. It was in alittle box with cotton stuff in it and would contain the matte proof cent and optional nickel! I saw one at a show in the early 1990's at a coin show - I even got the dealers signature - Q David Bowers. If I had unlimited funds I would buy one for Brad!
Off course there is the 1830 something king of Siam proof set!

Not sure, he has a bunch of stuff. Going there tomorrow to sort through it.
Got to tell you, if the economy is picking up like some want all to believe, I don't think so by the revolving door of people coming into his place to sell silver coins. I watched a lot of people coming in there the hour I was there looking at his Indian head collection. He is so busy, in the past he would sort through the stuff and look for anything good or special but its so busy, he has no time. And its everything dollars, quarters nickels dimes all silver. And a lot of gold being brought in mostly Jewelry. I watched him go through 4 ounces of 14 karat stuff and he paid the woman, using a penny weight formula of 42 dollars, 36 one hundred dollar bills. That's his pitch, pays out in cash, no checks. Business is booming and he just opened his 4th location.Comment

There were souvenir sets sold at the mints, granted they cost about 80 bucks now give or take, but they were pretty much the same thing.THOMAS J.

Yes if u went to the mint you get one although sometimes it was only the p's or 'd's. Depending if they had enough of the other mints coins. If you can get a set for 80 buy it!
I had the nuministic news one that I sold on eBay three years ago for 85 !
Amazing.
I also beloved the 2008 set has a premium because of mintage. I might be wrong on that one. I never saw a 1948-1955 mint set.
