Found this 1981 today was wondering what caused it to look like all the letters are real thick ? Its like it was a sponge an soaked up water . My guess DDD never saw one look like this yet. Not with the letters this fat. THX

Hi Bella, this is a well worn coin that may have already had die deterioration. It might have some "dryer" effect (hence what we call a dryer coin).

Yep, very worn and/or maybe a coin that spent some time in the fins of commercial dryer.
