Will it be for cents only or have I missed something posted about that?
James, I did mention that this service is for cents only. Some day in the future, it may incorporate other denominations, but that is way in the future.

Once we get coppercoins working exactly like it's supposed to and has all its features, I will be seeking administrators to franchise out the other denominations to. Eventual plans would be to have equivalent sites for Buffalo and Jefferson nickels, Mercury and Roosevelt dimes, Washington quarters, and Kennedy half dollars.

I am thinking about 'ebay' and your advertising. Once you guys are in business, and your attributed coins start getting sold on ebay, all of those rip-off salesman of error and variety coins, with their false ads, should start to dwindle. Someday, without your attribution on the coin, that coin will become more and more valueless, and no one will want an expensive variety coin without your attribution on them. With ebay marketing worldwide, I think your creation will soon spread like wildfire!
I know you guys know this, and I know you know that once your in business, you will grow and adjust every aspect of your business according to the needs and demands of each market possible.

I can see nothing but 'good' coming out of this 'idea'... this market share... this 'essential service' that has been inevitable since the TPG's dropped the ball. It's like everyone here is saying---'FINALLY'.
        My support! All the way!

Papascoins - I really appreciate the support and the comments. A couple of things I need to say, though..

          1. This is not a separate 'business' - it's only one of many new features/services we are adding to coppercoins.com. It's one step of about six that we plan on implementing before the year is out, then we will continue to move on implementing other ideas. I just wanted to clear that up since your post sounds like this is a business unto itself, whereas it is not. I guess the importance in NOT making that separation is to realize that this needs to cover itself to sustain - it doesn't need to stand on its own as its own company. That's an important distinction, because it outright states that this is NOT a competitive grading service. It's merely a way of ascertaining that we have viewed the coins, attributed the die varieties, assigned them numbers under our cataloging system, and can guarantee to future buyers that they are what we said they are.

          2. Obviously I want this to go well. I want everyone to be able to benefit from it. But like I said before, I am NOT interested in taking business away from the grading services as things stand. Although I will grade normal coins for people if they wish, my focus is in areas where the grading services have dropped the ball - like you've said. More of a 'supplement' than a 'replacement'. Remember, this service WILL verify die varieties already in TPG holders.

Consider it sort-of a CAC for die varieties, with it's own inexpensive holder for coins not already certified by a grading service.

This is definately what any Die Variety Collector would want in their collection. You definately have my attention on this subject. I am still new here and only four years into the variety collecting but I will definately be giving my support to You Guys. Thanks for such a great service.

I think this is an excellent idea. From time to time people ask me if I'm going to do the same thing for errors, but judging from the number of coins submitted to me now, there wouldn't be enough volume to make it pay. I'm content to help folks out when they need it in an informal fashion.

Might not be a bad suppliment to the CC service though Mike...

In fact, I have a decent handful of error coins that TPGs screwed up on royally- I'd love an expert secondary service that could straighten out the confusion.

Interesting concept. I'm conservatively excited about it and hope everything does move forward smoothly. I do like the idea of certification for the middle of the road varieties very much. This I believe is where the biggest gap is in both erronious attributions and acceptability. Another thought or head scratcher for me is the holder of the certified attribution and it's security level. I will be very interested in seeing how that develops as well. Good luck. I will continue to follow the thread and development of this brainchild. I am also available if and when there is a need for any kind of help required, though I don't know if I possess any of the skills you might be looking for.

Okay, so somewhat of an update:

As of now we are looking into a somewhat smaller than NGC/PCGS size non-sealing slab-like holder made of inert plastic with a foam core insert. The slab would be pressed together, then taped around the edge in strategic spots with hologram 'void-reveal' style tape with the coppercoins logo on the tape. Basically, if anyone opens the holder, it will be obvious without a fresh piece of the tape handy.

So that's what we are looking for right now.

As for skills you folks might possess that could assist in this project - once I go into beta testing, I will be looking for some volunteers to participate and comment on their experience.

                      Ambitious project.....GOOD LUCK!

My only concern is the holder. If the service catches on, the holders WILL be faked and tampered with. Unfortunately, that's just how it is. Generally, tape can be heated with a hair dryer, carefully romved and replaced....so I'm not sure how effective that would be as a tamper evident method.

If you disagree with the TPG grade on slabbed coins, will you still put your grade on the slab?

                        @Badthad:

The holograms stickers would be the tape. I believe you read this incorrectly. If the seals are removed, then they will leave behind a semi-permanent "voided" seal, and the rest of the hologram would be rendered useless. It's good security, especially if you plan on having to open it and send it to a TPG (or for any other reason).

I tried to give a long detailed discussion on this topic but the forum timed out before I could post. So I lost a half hrs work. Not re-writing it all again!

I think a heat gun may still remedy the situation , I used to do redring fixes on xboxes like candy and they had a "void" seal. All you had to do was heat that seal if you wanted to not compromise the seal

This has happened on many forums for me as well. One little tip....when you write a long forum post ANYWHERE on the web, always select and copy your text to clipboard BEFORE you hit the post key. I can't tell you how many times I've saved my butt doing that.

I actually was having some of those problems on here too, until, (I think it was Maineman), someone suggested to hit 'remember me' when you log on here. NO problems now!
