    So Many Questions!

Here's my issue. Realizing that uploading images will be a major part of participating in this greatest of forums, I started experimenting today with photographing cents.
Using a plain old Canon PowerShot, I took a shot and transferred it to my computer, where it's now stored in My Pictures (I'm still running Windows XP, which still suits my needs.) It's stored in its original size, but can be enlarged to a fairly decent size before it begins to blur.
My questions are: 1). If I upload this pic as an attachment to the site, will it still retain the ability to be enlarged by readers of the post? 2). Would anyone object if I did it now, strictly as an experiment? My fear is that while I can control the various enlargement sizes on my computer, once I upload it it will blur since there's only one enlargement setting on the site. I hope this makes sense.
Please bear in mind that this is my very first attempt, and I realize that it still can't be enlarged enough for a thorough examination, but this would be a starting point for me. If it's successful, then I would continue to try to refine my meager skills.
    Thanks. XAC.

Here is an attached picture of the "attachment key chart" it shows the maximum sizes for each file type. Once a picture has been posted, we can click on the attachment to view it, then another time to open it in a second window. And my computer (mac) allows me to click on it once more to enlarge it.

    Hope this helps

Just go advanced. The click manage attachments. Then click upload.

      They should work just fine.

Try it and see what happens. If it is too large you may need to reduce the size with an editing program. If you upload it with a thumbnail, then we can open it there. If it doesn't suit you go back in and remove the image.

Decent start - but try to get a little closer to the coin, and zoom to the point where you can still achieve focus, but the coin is as large in the frame as possible.

Also, I am not certain what that is in the background there, but I can tell you that it doesn't help us figure out what your coins are. So if you are familiar with any photo editing software, it would help you (and us) if your images were cropped down to having just a little extra around the coin. When done correctly the coin should take up about 90% of the image size.

LOL! I was so stoked to try a pic I put the coin on a piece of scrap wood & shot away! Not such a great background. But, it's a start, now I can move forward from there.
Thnx for the advice. I hope I'll have something worthwhile to photograph soon.

You picture is pretty good actually. Follow Chucks advice, zoom in (but don't use digital zoom, only optical) and then crop the picture when your done so it's mostly coin and not mostly background. Another note, on Canon's you can turn off digital zoom in the menu, I highly suggest doing that. Also, some Canons let you zoom while in macro mode and some don't, experiment to see.

I really, really like using optical zoom in macro mode. Most of the time I don't even bother to crop the picture for web use. You should also consider a cheap image editing software like Paint Shop Pro. You can buy an older version that works just fine for around $10-15.
