He is in the pacific NW, so chances are probably 100x greater out there then in the east, where most of us here are from.

That's a billion to one find, and amazing, but that thread is obnoxiously long and my goodness how people veer off topic.

I wonder if that was one that was put purposely in circulation?

No reason I could see. That would be a $1000+ loss.

I agree that would be dumb! But read last year - I believe coineorld - I forget what they were promoting, but a 1909-s vdb was put in circulation in NYC!! That's dumb! I found a 1955 doubled die in circulation, but I was 9 years old and the year was 1959!!! Boy if I only knew what I know know then! Common 20 dollar gold pieces were $50!
                      Oh well back to searching.

Yes, I've also read about key coins being put in circulation just to promote the hobby. It can and does happen...we have to remember there are people who don't even blink at burning through thousands of dollars in a night.

If it's genuine, that's the find of a lifetime. The SVDB is known by virtually everyone, it could very well be the most famous coin ever. They have been picked clean from circulation by the public over the past 100 years.
