As far as 'credit' goes - I've never cared, but know others do. It doesn't matter to me WHO discovered, reported, etc. a coin as long as we get a chance to know what it looks like so we can find one too. Honestly, I don't know how many credits I have out there for reporting stuff, nor have I ever really cared.

What I have done in the pass is send to Bob, then James Wiles and so on to have the coin placed in there files so when I do slab it I have the only discovery slab for that coin. How can some one else slab a coin if you were the first to send it to all and have it reported in there files that you are the discover? They can't. Cover all bases.

I do use the term "discovery piece" since traildies.com is the only site that attributes the trail die, which surprisingly to some is a valid die anomaly. I leave it up to the Third Party Grading Companies (ICG and ANACAS, which do use the trail die number system) to include the wording "discovery piece" on those individual pieces which deserve that description. All I do is provide a letter of attribution, describing what my findings are.
However, I can also see the problems that arise from multiple discoveries of the same die anomaly, at the same time and sent to various attributers, all demanding the term "discovery piece". While attributers may want to overlook the term "discovery piece", it is only human nature for the person who does discovery a new die anomaly to be accredited with that discovery. And what better way than to have it encapsulated with that term and have that encapsulated die anomaly in their possession.
Solution? there is none. Since there are multiple attributers for doubled dies and such, who discovers what first is just a race as who gets the credit for discovering that die. As for me, I have no problem with the term "discovery piece".
