    Another Brain Twister:Dropped Letter? RPM?

It looks like the same size as the "O" in the motto.

Wow, I think you're right Wayne! Looks like a dropped letter to me. Especially in pic #2.

Seen some weird things with the 89 and plating. Like the rings around the 8 and 9 one this one.
        Wouldn't a dropped letter be incuse ?

        Good Luck

I'm pretty sure its a dropped letter on the die. (could be wrong, probably am) So it would cause it to be raised. I dont actually think this is a dropped letter though.

Hey Wayne, to me this looks like a plating issue. Just going by the plating around the date and the splitting above the letters in United and States. Have you tried rubbing it with a toothpick? IMHO. Tom

              Hi
I have found many of these on various dates - 83 up. The d is struck through a plating bubble.
              Thankyou

I agree, plating bubble. If it were a dropped letter, it'd definitely be incuse as James stated.

Judging from the doubling on the date, this is probably a wierd manifestation of die deterioration doubling. But I can't rule out plating disruption doubling, which is a form of blistering. It's certainly not a dropped letter.

In the center of the anomoly there is a split throught the plating. The zinc underneath is deteriorating. Rising and falling. Note on the center image on my link. You can see the same affect on my 1990. Note the area between the 1 & 9. Sorry for the large image.
