"The best-laid schemes o' mice an' men."

It was my intention to spring clean some of my collection (which I'm still doing), sell off dupes and other stuff on ebay(which I did) for the purpose of using the money to buy supplies and a couple of better grade varieties I've been wanting for a while.
Sold everything I listed and real cheap BUT they were dupes, and it was really free money. People paid, I shipped, money is now in Paypal....just waiting for me to spend it on a new Dansco, some flips, a 2006-017 or a 1956 RPM-008.
    This was Sunday.
HOWEVER, at the same time a light came on on the dashboard of my old clunker. Mmm, It's perhaps telling me I need to address a possible problem. So, i check it out. The alternator is bad. I get it fixed Monday and pay with the only "extra money i have, paypal. The amount of the repair was ironically just about the same amount i had in paypal from the sales.
No dansco, no flips, no new varieties....but my car runs and i can get to work. I am grateful that I had the finances to fix the car but man, it's a little dissapointing too. My dreaming and drooling only lasted a moment.
Oh well, I still have more extra stuff so maybe I'll give it another try in a week or 2...or maybe not. When you sell a 2006-018 dbl ear for $2.75 it makes you stop and think..uh, maybe this is not a good time to sell coins. My only consolation is a very wonderful and giving person bought it which makes me happy.

That seems to be the way it goes for me too. Every time I get a little extra dough some problem pops up requiring the "extra" and more. Like you say, at least the necessary thing got fixed and that's better than the alternative.

Too bad you're not a little closer Rock, I could have taken care of an alternator very cheaply...my last one cost me about $7...in gas

Yeah, I'm sure this was a familiar tale to many. So goes life. Don't worry about the flips. I'm not that broke and I don't need them just yet, but thanks for the offer all the same. I have no car mechanic friends here but thinking I should start to find some.

Sorry about your luck. On a side note, I liked the thread title. Burns' "To a Mouse" is my favorite poem ever!
