What is Rep power

So I see some people have a lot of it and i have 2 what is it?

I think it's something like "karma points" in a sense. If you give a good answer, answer a question, are supportive or nice, you can give people "rep points". While they don't give you any special privileges, it shows other members you are a respectable/trustoworthy person. You can get rep power by having someone choose your answer to their question, by receiving thanks from someone, or by clicking "add to XXXX's reputation" under their name. Hope this helps!

It seems one gets the most points for the number of thanks you are given, followed by number of posts and then a few other variables. The thanks are the big one. Does it mean anything? Probably not.
