Of course they could attempt to meet those same standards as PCGS and NGC if they want to survive.

I agree that anacs should be involved with this. I only have a few of there coins but I personally think 80% of the tike they do better then NGC.Casey ParmanComment

The principle of all of this is what has me up in arms. I was a big time baseball card dealer from the early 80s to the mid 90s. When the Beckett price guide started focusing more on graded coins than non-graded, the hobby really started a huge decline. What made matters worse is that Beckett started grading cards as well. Which to me was a big conflict of interest. I feel that eBay really is getting some financial gain by excluding all but two of the grading companies. I really think most of the problems they are facing with the Coin & Currency category could have been avoided if eBay had hired one or two experts to help weed through all of the bogus listings. This category has exploded in the past two years, and having staff that is very familiar could have been a huge help. I just do not like it when someone tells me how I should run the way I sell things. I have been a loyal and honest seller for over a decade. I hope they come up with some better policies or I am afraid there will be some great dealers consider this the straw that broke the camels back."If Free Speech stops when someone gets offended, it is not really Free Speech."Comment

I've always gone along with the policy of not mentioning grade in the title if the coin wasn't slabbed by one of the sacred, but I find it ridiculous to not allow a seller to offer their opinion of the grade in the description.“What can be asserted without evidence can also be dismissed without evidence.”Comment

Ebay has asked me for comments on their services and would like some feedback. I could convey the concerns as a member if you draft something acceptable to most of our members here at LCR.

I can tell you that complaining to eBay about their decision to exclude ANACS as a top-tier grading service will get you nowhere. I guess you can complain if you would feel better, but it won't result in anything at eBay.
Basically they have a quorum of their top coin sellers who pull the punches and call the shots. When these sellers speak, eBay listens. These sellers are the ones who do $20K or more monthly on eBay, and they don't deal in ANACS, ICG, PCI, Accugrade, or other slabs. They deal in PCGS and NGC exclusively because the mainstream market as a whole has the wool pulled over their eyes in believing that only these two companies can grade coins. We know this isn't true, but our staying power with the almighty word equals our pull with the U.S. dollar...very little compared to the big cats like Heritage, Silvertowne, Spectrum, and even the company I work for - JMRC. These companies have a grand for our every single dollar, and what they say goes...end of story.
I have logged into an eBay account that shows a single month of sales in the hundreds of thousands of dollars with over 3,000 items sold. I know this account is also not the top coin seller in dollar volume or in quantity on eBay. There are about a dozen coin companies that total over a million a month in sales that generate tens of thousands of dollars in revenue for eBay monthly.
Face it...nobody here (myself definitely included) means squat to eBay, and they would rather be shot than listen to us sob about their dealer partners picking on a WAY distant third place grading company that has a history filled with problems, grading problem coins, misattributing die varieties, customer care issues, and the list goes on.
I simply quit dealing on eBay because there's no point. Their fees are exorbitant, their rules are unrealistic, and their website is all but impossible to swim through as a seller. They are squeezing the little guy out because they don't make their money from the little guys. That's capitalism. That's just the way it is.Charles D. I really have a tough time seeing how this will affect me...
As a "little fish" in the big ebay pond, I can clearly see how many of eBay's policies are slanted against the seller, that is one of the main reasons I've never tried to make it big on ebay. Ebay is a last resort dumping ground- a great market yes, but not a free market.
Because I won't allow myself to be a lending library of coins with a full return policy (outside of eBay I have complete choice who I sell to and always offer a 100% return), now I don't get their fancy sticker calling me a "Top Rated Seller"- Really? Who cares.
As for their changes in TPG policy- you could never list a coin with a numerical grade in the title unless by an accepted TPG. ANACS has become such a screw-ball company- unable to attribute, grade or sometimes even label correctly... they've tied their own noose. I've found that an unattributed variety in a PCGS or NGC holder sells better than an attributed ANACS variety. They've done it to themselves and I could care less.
Doesn't say that you can't list a coin like "2011 DDO #4 BU" and then show the ANACS label in the photo- so I don't see how this will affect me.
Don't get me wrong- I'm not the biggest eBay proponent, but not because of their fees (it's a COST OF DOING BUSINESS!).
What is will be and what changes will become what it will. I'll still be selling and people who buy varieties will still be buying them. Hope this is a wake up call for ANACS, they used to be the foremost in the field for varieties, now the screw up even the simplest, plainly listed varieties on a submission form. And as for their ability to grade, fuggeddabowdit!!
What's more important here is when Coppercoins attribution gets off the ground is getting eBay to accept their attribution label. I think this would make ANACS entirely obsolete. I mean really, who lives and dies by ANACS grading?Last edited by liveandievarieties; 04-17-2012, 07:47 PM.Chris & Charity Welch- LIVEANDIEVARIETIES

The only thing that would affect me on eBay is that you cannot list raw coins with a reserve or buy it now anymore. The way I read it that's for any price. All raw auctions are just that auctions. No big problem - maybe on the reserve.
ThankyouRoger

You are reading it wrong. Conversations with eBay have confirmed that you can list raw, ANACS, or ICG coins any way you desire so long as they start below $2500.Comment
-
First, listings for coins will be allowed to include a numeric grade in their listing title or item description only if the coin grading company meets certain objective standards.* Coins that haven't been graded by these companies will be considered raw or ungraded. Currently, eBay has determined that only the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) and the Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) meet these standards.Comment
-
Brad, the conversation above is regarding BIN's and starting price, not listing numerical grades....we all agree that is forbidden.Comment

True that Chris, My Anacs 70 ,First day slab sold for less than a RAW example does, and that my friend is just ridiculousComment

Really the bottom line here is - either follow their rules or quit using the site. I chose the latter.Charles D. Daughtrey, NLG, Author, "Looking Through Lincoln Cents"

This might not have alot of bearing in this thread, but I just wanted to add that if you are buying and selling on ebay, I've found that alot of sellers don't take advantage of the Ebay bucks. Ebay bucks aren't available for certain categories like bullion coins or certain coin categories. Ebay bucks add up and buyers will take advantage of the free money on a ebay buck listing. /End threadjackComment
