What are they looking for - 1990P/D Cent

Apart from searching 2011 and 2012 cents I have to break very often to search circulated bricks. What I have discovered is that people are searching 1974-1978 cents by the ton. However in my area of DC,VA and MD I have received so many 1990 cents that I am wandering what are these searchers looking for on this date. Can anyone tell me what I am missing here? All informed opinions are welcome. From each roll of 50 coins I am seeing at least 6 cents for 1990. This has been happening for the past 3 months. Could a hoard of 1990 cents be in circulation.

There's a very nice 1990-P DDO listed in Wexler's ALRC 2... it's definitely worth looking for.

I don't have the book handy, but the pickup point on the coin is "LIBERTY"... there's very nice notching and separation.

I am unable to find it online but I will go to the Redbook.

            Lucien,

I don't think you'll find it in the RB. It's in the Authoritative Reference to Lincoln Cents by Wexler.

              I don't follow Lucien- who's searching 74-78 Cents?

And in 1990 they made nearly 7 billion philly cents, why is it surprising they're common?

Not beating up on you, just trying to understand what you're saying.

The collectors in my tristate area have been going through a lot of 74-78 and that seems to be the norm but lately 1990 cents have been in the circulated rolls more than the 74-78 coins.

That 1990 DDO Wexler lists may still be population 1. It's nice and I have been looking along with a lot of others trying to find another example. That said, it might just be a quirk or someone or some bank just might have inadvertently had a lot 1990s and released them...

What collectors? Are you saying you can tell what people are searching by picking up a box or two a week? I'm just having a hard time following what you're saying Lucien.

That 1990 ddo referenced in Kevin Flynn and wexlers book is amazing. Very nice doubling on the LI of liberty along with the bowtie. Really would like to find one. Im sitting on about 75 rolls of OBW rolls, too. Just don't have the time to search right now.

When you look at the 1990 coins you can see that they have either been washed or smeared,or stained by someone and that's not me

I do not think it's realistic to assume at all that what you are seeing in circulation is the result of other collectors 'searching' through coins. There are so few collectors actually doing what we do that we are an insignificant blip on the radar compared to the number of coins in circulation.
