    1930 d rpm's?

    Hi Everyone,

I'm wondering if anyone has or knows of any pictures of the 1930 D RPM'S. Coneca and Variety Vista give descriptions but no pictures. I think this one might be die deterioration but need to check.

    Thanks,

      I'm thinking the same thing.

I am not all convinced that it is NOT a RPM. The secondary D shows a tilt when compared with the primary D and that rules out die deterioration; it is also the wrong direction for the doubling to be that cause.

While the secondary D does look like it is flat and shelf like, the tilt once again comes into play. I have not see a tilted machine doubling.

However, there is too much dirt around both mint marks to make a definite call. This is one that you may want to send to Bob Piazza.

Less, Back the photo up and let us look at date/mintmark relation, that will give an idea of whether it's #4, I cannot tell if the lower serif is split, to dark.....

            Hi Guys,

I tried to do a little cleaning and get a decent picture and this is how it turned out. I see a little deterioration on the 9 & 0 of the date also I think. I appreciate you taking the time to look at this.

By looking at the RPM book, It is the #4 with the split serif. Nice find. Eaxtell, nice eye on your part.

                  Thanks so much to everyone!

I was concentrating on the ddd/mdd/rpm to the North that I didn't notice anything to the South. It's hard to see.

I have to use a QX3 microscope which has 10X, 60X & 200X magnification. The first pic is at 200X and for some reason the picture gets dark and if I take too long it starts getting even darker... probably the light going out. The second pic is at 60X. Until the ultra sonic cleaner gets here I use Hydrogen Peroxide and a Q-tip to clean some of the dirt/grime off the coin. I've never had any negative reaction from the chemicals... Is this a big No No?

                  Thanks,
                  Lestrrr

Use rubbing alcohol and wet Q-Tip or go to the cleaning section at Walmart and get some Goo-Gone. Never clean your coin with a dry Q-tip. Put it in the solution your going to use to clean the coin with and lightly clean (Keep the Q-Tip Moist) or it will scratch the surface of the coin. I don't know about Peroxide as it is a bleach and I have never used it. Nice find!

                      Thank you.

I didn't know that it was a bleach. It just says hydrogen peroxide 3%, inactive ingredient purified water. My girlfriend works at a hardware store so I'm having her bring some goo-gone home. Should I get the 55 gallon drum?

Put some Hydrogen Peroxide on your hair and it will make it blond if you are not already one. (LOL)

Get a 55 gal drum only if you search a very large dump truck full of coins per week.(LOL)

Just a little bit of the Goo Gone will do a good job. Every now and then I will use it but don't want to get carried away with it. Here is one I did to remove the build up around the numbers & letters. Very lightly removed the buildup with a soft brush and Goo Gone. Fortunatley didn't leave scratches while did leave the imbedded discolorations.
