    Latest $100

I am half way through a $100 in cents I recently got from a bank. I think it has been a pretty good lot so far. While I am sure nothing too exciting for the seasoned guys here, I am having a good time. Here are some totals & pictures:

    50 wheats - including 1913, 1916s, 1917?, 1919, 1926, 1936 (3) two are pretty bad, & 1938. The rest are 40's and 50's

    1998 Wide AM (I think) -

1960d - (28) about half/half Large/small (again, I think) - Send me a PM if you want a large scan of these with your email

Total of 30-40% copper in the $50 so far, and of course, the usual few Canadian coins (12) with (1) from the Bahamas?

and what I can only guess to be an unusual amount of nicer quality 60's & 70's (larger scan available)

I do have a question about this 1955 - Is there anything there?

I can't wait to see the other $50.

Nice haul!! The 1998 looks like a Wide AM, I have been told to check the "TAT" in STATES if the T AT" looks like that (the A is closer to the 2nd T) its a close AM if the "T A T" looks like that (the A is evenly spaced between the T's) its a WIDE AM, congrats! I too have found a Bahama penny in with all the other stuff, finding a lot of 1982 small/large copper/zinc P/D. Happy hunting for the next $50 and beyond!

Sounds like you're having fun...definitely a wide AM and the 1955 shows machine doubling.

Yes, - so is the 1955 a "poor mans doubled die"?

No. The poor man's doubled die was caused by die deterioration, showing primarily on the last 5. Your coin has machine doubling on the entire date. Still, since the "poor man's doubled die" isn't a doubled die either, you could just make up some clever BS name for it anyway.

Hmmm, havent heard that one. The key for a Wide " AM" is the is equal distance between the A M E in America and the designers initials, which are different on a wide AM than a non proof reverse . Tom

I was trying to post this last night, but was having connectivity issues at the hotel I am staying. For me, the initials are by far the best place to start. Die deterioration can obscure all of the indicators.
