Quick question about special mint sets.

I was wondering how you could tell if a coin was from an SMS or not? I was researching some prices on a 1966P coin based on grade and saw that SMS coins @MS67 was only about $8 whereas non-sms coins @MS66 was $65. It got me curious because I recently found this 1966P with some obverse toning in a roll from the bank.

Is there some portion of the coin that can be looked at on 1965, 1966, and 1967 coins that indicate it was from a special mint set?

SMS coins, while produced in a different manner than proofs, are prooflike. The designs of SMS and MS coins are the same. The difference between SMS and MS are fairly obvious when next to eachother, likewise, MS coins from the era will look the same as MS 1964 and 1968 coins.

Your 1966 cent is an SMS example.
