    1945 magnetic wheat penny?!!

Anyone have information or know of any wheat pennies from 1945 that could be steel? I have a 1945 wheat that is highly polished, no mint mark, color is not right for steel or copper, but is magnetic! Checked several references, no luck.

Okay folks! Here are the pics, sorry for not being sooner! I weighed it and a 1937d on atriple beam both weighed 3.1.

Check it, in a situation such as this, a picture would be your best option. Otherwise it is hard to give an honest opinion on what you are describing. Photo's are your best friend. With out them it is difficult at best to make any determination at all.Just sayin' Tom. ( got your back Simon:-D)

Most likely you have a nickel plated cent...fairly common and not a mint error.

It rained most of the day yesterday...so I took too long of a nap...and woke up before the coffee pot finished this morning

            Welcome to LCR!
It sounds, as already noted, like it was plated.

We can all guess what is going on. Since no steel cents are know of for 1945 everyone will assume plated, but no one can tell you 100% without a picture.

Lol thanks Tom, you pretty much said what I was gonna say.

Without a picture it is tough to determine the cause of the color/magnetism, but like the others I imagine it was plated.

I agree a picture would be nice...but nobody will know 100% with a picture either...weight and a picture will give us a better guess

Plated coins can show a little attraction to a magnet. But compared with a 1943 steel cent they can be detected quickly. The Steel cents stick firmly to a magnet.

If you click on some online magician's supply stores, you'll find coins in which a steel pellet or a magnet is inserted thorugh the edge and then the hole patched up to make it undetectable.
