I was looking for ddo 1984 but i come across this with part of the "l" missing and extra line on the "i" and "b" of "lib" there is a picture with normal liberty
This can be due to a couple things. One is that the edge of the die may become worn, and so sometimes details on the edge are lost (called die deterioration). The other thing that could have happened is that grease could have become lodged in the die where the L is, and so the cents that are struck with that die do not show that part of the L (called a grease-filled die).

When the dies that struck copper plated planchets age, the level of the fields decreases disproportionately fast relative to the incuse devices. The external devices will begin to look as if they are sinking into the coin. Sometimes most of LIB and parts of IN GOD will seemingly disappear.
